How to Replace a Rice Cooker Lid Gasket (Inner Lid Seal)
A torn lid gasket is a different SKU from the inner pot. Match the model stamp, order the inner lid or seal the brand actually sells, and skip a universal 5.5-cup ring.
This desk does not run a product test fleet. What follows is manufacturer parts logic and owner-consensus leak symptoms — not a gasket-wear diary and not a third inner-pot replacement guide.
This page is the lid seal. Inner lid, silicone ring, pressure packing on a CRP. Inner pot replacement — compatibility chart is bowls. When and how to replace the inner pot is coating diagnosis. How to clean a rice cooker properly is wash-and-inspect. Do not treat those as twins.
What actually fails
Steam is supposed to leave through the vent, not around the hinge. A rice cooker lid is a stack:
- Outer lid (plastic, hinges, sometimes a display).
- Inner lid — the plate that faces the rice. Most Micoms pop this off.
- A silicone or rubber gasket in a groove on that inner lid (or around the rim on some analog glass lids).
- On pressure Cuckoos and Cuchens, a heavier packing / pressure ring plus a valve path.
The smell people blame on “the machine” is usually starch in that groove. Wash first: steam vent and lid, then the maintenance schedule. Order parts only after a clean, dry lid still leaks or the ring is cracked.
Zojirushi’s NL-EAC copy is unusually blunt: the outer lid will not close if the inner lid is not set. That is a seating check, not a reason to buy a new cooker. Reseat the inner lid. If the tab is broken, that is an inner-lid SKU.
Symptom vs parts order
| What you see | Usually is | Next |
|---|---|---|
| Sour smell, lid looks dirty | Starch in the gasket groove | Wash. Cotton swab in the channel |
| Steam from the sides, vent is clear | Flattened or torn ring, or inner lid not clicked in | OEM inner lid / gasket for this model stamp |
| Lid will not close | Inner lid missing or rotated | Reseat. NL-EAC: lid lock is a sensor, not a defect |
| Drips into the condensation collector | Normal steam, or a warped inner lid | Clean the collector. Warped plate → lid SKU |
| Pressure hiss from the rim on a CRP | Pressure packing, not a Micom CR gasket | CRP parts page. Do not mix CR and CRP lids |
| Rice still pale, coating flaking | The bowl, not the lid | Diagnosis hub, then the bowl chart |
How to replace it without guessing
- Unplug. Cool. Do not peel a hot gasket.
- Pop the inner lid. Tabs on the sides on most Zojirushi / Tiger / Cuckoo Micoms. Glass-lid analog pots (RC516, ARC-753SG) often have no separate inner lid — there is nothing to order except a whole lid if the glass or rim is shot.
- Photograph the old ring in the groove before you pull it. Orientation matters. Some rings have a split that faces a drain.
- Read the model stamp on the cooker body, not the Amazon title. NS-TSC10 is not NL-EAC10. CR-0675F is not CR-0655F. CRP-ST1009FG is not a CR Micom.
- Order the OEM inner lid or gasket kit from the brand parts list, or a listing that names that exact model in the title. “Fits most 5.5-cup Zojirushi” is the same skip-buy this site already uses for leftover bowls.
- Seat dry. A wet soapy ring can twist. Close the lid. On NL-EAC, confirm it latches. Run a water-only steam or Auto-Clean if the cooker has it — not a scorched-rice cycle.
Cuckoo America sells US Micoms with detachable inner lids. The CR-0675F page (ASIN B08WFNV82W) calls that out. Pressure units still need valve-and-packing care; see Cuckoo vs the bowl chart and the CRP review.
Do not invent part numbers on this page. The letters on the cooker win.
Skip-buy
Skip a new cooker if the body still heats, the bowl coating is intact, and only the lid leaks. A lid is cheaper than a Micom.
Skip a universal gasket. Geometry is the product.
Skip mixing CR and CRP seals. Non-pressure Micom vs pressure packing.
Skip replacing the bowl “while you are in there” unless the coating is actually done. That decision is diagnosis, not this SKU.
Skip steel wool on the inner lid. Plastic scratches; silicone tears. Warm water, mild soap, dry fully so the next cook is not a mold farm.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a rice cooker gasket the same as a replacement inner pot?
No. The bowl is one part number. The inner lid and its silicone ring are another. This page will not grow a third inner-pot replacement guide. Bowls: the compatibility chart. Diagnosis of a dead coating: when to replace the inner pot.
How do I know the gasket is done?
Steam leaking around the lid with a clean vent, a lid that will not latch, a cracked or flattened ring, or a sour smell that returns after you wash the lid. Starch in the groove is a clean, not a parts order.
Can I buy a universal 5.5-cup rice cooker gasket?
Skip it. Inner lids are model-stamped. A 5.5-cup Zojirushi NS-TSC lid is not an NL-EAC lid and not a Cuckoo CR lid. Order the OEM inner lid or gasket kit for the letters on the cooker.
Do pressure Cuckoo cookers use a different seal?
Yes. A CRP pressure ring is a pressure-cooker seal, not the same object as a non-pressure Micom inner-lid gasket. Do not put a CR-0675F lid on a CRP body.
Should I replace the gasket every time I replace the inner pot?
Usually no. Replace the lid or ring when it is torn, warped, or will not seat. The inner-pot chart already says the lid is a different SKU. If the brand sells a bowl-plus-lid set for that exact model, that is optional, not required.
